The translator asked me to post this message Benjammin Richler POEMS OF THE HOLOCAUST AND POEMS OF FAITH. By Aaron Zeitlin. Edited and translated by Morris M. Faierstein. iUniverse: New York, 2007. ISBN - 0595434509. Paper, $18.95. Aaron Zeitlin was a major literary figure in interwar Poland. He was an author, poet playwright and journalist. He was the first president of the Yiddish section of PEN and he and I.B. Singer closely collaborated as editors of the Warsaw literary journal, Globus. He was in New York overseeing the American premiere of one of his plays at the Yiddish Art Theater, whe World War II broke out in September, 1939. He was alone and unable to return to Poland. His whole family perished in the Holocaust. The poems in the present collection, drawn from his collected poems, reflect his personal guilt at surviving the Holocaust when everything he valued was destroyed and his struggles with the theological impact of the destruction of East European Jewry. These poems are a meditation on the Holocaust and Jewish existence in its aftermath.
