I didn't speak out when the Atlanta Jewish Community, now the 10th
largest Jewish community, closed its community library (part of
Center for Jewish Education and Experiences) last year. Now Yeshiva
Atlanta decided to downsize their professional librarian position and
after 9 years there I have moved on to teach computer classes at
another local Jewish high school.

At the least, members of HaSafran and especially AJL leadership
should contact the Whippany community Federation to protest the
closure of the library and try to educate the "powers that be",
a.k.a. as the Allocation committee, about the importance of a Jewish
library and one staffed by a professional.

How many times have you heard a school official tell a visiting
family, "And here is our library. It is the heart of the
school?" However, when it comes to funding the facility and the
professional, there's no money in the budget.

I do not plan to go back to Jewish librarianship.
