There are lots of things to consider, but some frequently over looked
items are: make to have a work room with running water. There are
many times that you need to wash you hands or something else and you
don't want to run to the washroom. Plan for plenty of electrical and
computer connections and then plan for ample expansion. Twenty years
ago no one thought we would have banks of computers for library
users. Think about the flow of people and information in your new
library. Plan for security of materials, people, and data.

Think of what message you want the space to give the visitor or staff
member. Have child sized furniture in part of the library. Have hard
chairs and soft chairs.
