POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Director of Libraries A prestigious college in New York invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Libraries. The Director of Libraries directs overall operations of the College's Libraries, develops goals and objectives, and creates short- and long-term plans for the management of the libraries. The Director of Libraries reports to the Vice President of Undergraduate Education and works closely with the academic deans and senior administrative team on behalf of the college.
The college is seeking a leader who will embrace the opportunities that new technology offers while retaining the traditional virtues of a great library. The ideal candidate will have: · an understanding of the complexities and richness of academic life and the role of the library in a modern college · an ability to develop strategic goals and objectives and set priorities for the College's libraries · a record of successful administrative experience with strong written and verbal communication skills, financial planning (including budget preparation and control), and management · commitment to the recruitment, training and development, and retention of a diverse and highly-qualified workforce; ability to inspire the library staff and the broader university community in confronting the challenge of the next decades · experience in planning, design, implementation, support and evaluation of library automated systems · appreciation for the research and educational needs and practices of faculty scholars and students · expertise in working within a multi-state and international collegiate environment · a record of experience working with governmental monitors and regional accrediting agencies · a fundamental understanding of technology and its relation to academic institutions. The successful candidate will possess an MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution (second Master's or Ph.D. preferred), at least five years experience at a senior level of library administration, and the ability to work with a diverse faculty and staff.
