Paul Miller requested an anthology of Holocaust literature, and I
would like to suggest a new anthology I co-edited with Bar-Ilan
professor Keren Goldfrad called The Call of Memory: Learnng About the
Holocaust Through Literature: An Anthology (Shawn Goldfrad, 2008, Ben
Yehuda Press). It contains 27 short stories including "The Name" by
Aharon Megged, "The Hunt" by Aharon Appelfeld, four stories by Ida
Fink, and two by Clara Asscher-Pinkhof. The other authors are not
Israeli, but there is an accompanying 508-page Teacher's Guide that
features literary analyses of each of the 27 stories; the majority of
these academic analyses were written by Israeli professors from each
of the universities in Israel. The books are available on Amazon, but
at callofmemory.com you can order review copies if you are
considering adopting it for a university class. I have used it with
great success at Yeshiva University.
