Beginner's Ladino with 2 Audio CDs by Alla Markova
(Available in September from Amazon)

Ladino, also known as Judeo-Spanish, is the language of the Sephardim
- Jews whose ancestors came from Sepharad (the Iberian Peninsula).
During the Middle Ages, the Jews who lived in the Iberian Peninsula
both spoke and wrote in the Romance languages of the host culture.
They developed dialects different in some ways from the Castilian
norm that was evolving. After the Expulsion of the Jews in 1492, this
language became part of the "Iberian heritage" of the Sephardim
throughout the world. The language of the Sephardic Jews is a
reflection of their many wanderings. Since the Sephardim lived in
different countries, their vernacular acquired some words,
grammatical features, and expressions from many languages - from
Arabic to Turkish to Greek to Serbian.

After the Shoah, the language has been in serious danger of
extinction, but is now experiencing a revival. A number of
universities now offer Ladino classes. There is even a Wikipedia in Ladino.

BEGINNER'S LADINO with 2 AUDIO CDs is the only Ladino
language-instruction manual on the market today.
