                     Teaching Values Through Children's Literature

Seattle, WA, December 10, 2008

The Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) will present FROM WORD TO DEED:
TEACHING OUR CHILDREN THROUGH LITERATURE on Sunday, February 15,
2009, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Temple Beth Am in Seattle, Washington.
The one-day conference features two noted educators and lecturers, Rivy
Poupko Kletenik of Seattle and Lisa Silverman of Los Angeles who will explore
values through text,Midrash and popular stories for youth.

Rivy Poupko Kletenik is Head of School at Seattle Hebrew Academy. A nationally
known award winning educator and lecturer, she is also a columnist giving
advice on all things Jewish for the Seattle JT News. Lisa Silverman, Library
Director at Sinai Temple, Los Angeles and a former day school librarian, is
Children's Book Editor of Jewish World magazine, has written for School Library
Journal and lectured at the International Board on Books for Young People
(IBBY) on illustrated children's books about the Holocaust.

Librarians, educators, booksellers, writers, poets, storytellers, parents and
grandparents thoughout the Northwest are invited to attend. To receive a

and supporters who either live in the Northwest or may be visiting are
especially welcome to attend. Your help in spreading the word to anyone
interested in learning more about children's literature is appreciated.

The February conference is the first to be presented by AJL in the Northwest.
It is anticipated to be an exciting forerunner leading up to the AJL 
International
conference in Seattle in July, 2010, which will draw Judaica librarians and
educators from all over the world.
