As a former Holocaust educator (trained by Facing History and
Ourselves ,The American Gathering of Holocaust Survivors and Yad
Vashem), it would have been fairly easy to find the flaw in Angel
Girl by just reading about the camps and their set up. Why couldn't
it just have been presented as a fictionalized account? Since many
of us have written for Kar-Ben, another imprint of Lerner, I am happy
to report that they are meticulous about accuracy in even
multicultural and/or historical fiction. I had to submit a
bibliography of the factual material that inspired Hanukkah Moon with
my manuscript. However, the story is still basically fiction. So,
congratulations to Judye Groner and Kar-Ben. You really know what
you are doing!
