You are cordially invited to attend the AJL Mentoring
Committee/Chicago Conference. Location: TBA Time: 5 PM.
This year has proven to be one of exceptional challenges and
unforeseen difficulties. I together with Suzie Dubin and past
committee members have been discussing how the Mentoring Committee
might rise to meet the occasion. Some suggestions have been:
· Approach mentoring in a collaborative fashion.
· Direct requests for mentors to originate at the local chapter
(or division)
· Encourage new members to familiarize themselves with the AJL
homepage, underscoring its resources (e.g. bibliographies, useful links)
· Suggest that they subscribe to the Hasafran listerv (and
local usergroups where available)
· Advise these members to join appropriate library associations
(for networking, professional development, collaboration)
· Where local support is lacking, allow mentors to request a
mentor from the AJL Mentoring Committee
· Establish a resource of experience subject specialists who
will volunteer to answer questions remotely through the Mentoring
Committee portal on the homepage.
Applications for both mentors and mentees will be available online
and at the conference after Passover. Prospective mentors (or
subject specialists) should contact Stephanie (Sara Leah) Gross,
Chair of the AJL Mentoring Committee.
