Numerous libraries, museums, private collections and archives across Europe document and preserve plays, programmes, books, journals, photographs, posters, video and audio recordings related to Jewish theatre and performing arts. However, it is nearly impossible to access or search through the entire myriad of materials. Therefore, during 2009 the European Research Centre for Jewish Theatre and Performing Arts, in collaboration with University College London, is working on a survey to map out all existing European institutions holding collections of Jewish theatre and performing arts. The goal of this project, which is partly sponsored by the Rothschild Foundation Europe, is to collect, catalogue and index the vast, wide-ranging and cross-boundary information on European Jewish theatre, making it accessible and user-friendly by means of cutting-edge technology. All the information will be fed into an interactive database linked to All About Jewish Theatre, the only global network dedicated to Jewish theatre and performing arts.
