This is the first Shelf-Sale organized by Kestenbaum & Company.
Our customary detailed illustrated catalogues will not appear in relation
to this auction, instead the lots to be offered for sale are identified via
a list that appears on our
Web-Site (www.Kestenbaum.net)

This short auction of just 45 lots is primarily comprised of books from the
Richter Collection of Jewish Liturgy, highlights of which were sold by
Kestenbaum & Company in September 2008.

The present auction represents the bulk of Mr. Richter's exceptional
library of some 2,000 volumes.

The Preface to the September 2008 Kestenbaum auction-catalogue first
introduced the Collection as follows:

"Mr. Richter assembled a vast library comprising a huge range of Siddurim,
Machzorim and varied other liturgical works such as Selichoth, Kinoth and
Minhag books. Everything that pertained to Jewish liturgy and the Synagogue
was of interest to him. In this regard he did much original research on the
books in his collection, rich not only with antiquarian material but also
containing an extensive research library."

Please note: Further fine individual rarities from the Richter Collection
will be offered for sale at auction later in the Fall.

FAQ's: Kestenbaum Judaica Auction, 16th July

Our auction this Thursday afternoon is entitled a "Shelf-Sale."
For those of our clients not familiar, this is a standard auction-industry
term, whereby, large grouped lots are offered for sale in the traditional
auction manner.

Book-Auction-Houses such as Swann and Bloomsbury have undertaken such
auctions for many years, almost along the lines of an end-of-season
"clearance-sale." Due to the large quantity of books offered in a
short space of time, a
Shelf-Sale is often particularly attractive to book-dealers.

In the case of the present Kestenbaum auction, some 2,000 volumes have been
grouped into just 45 lots. The books are certainly of interest, mostly
stemming as they do from the Richter Collection, although according to our
determination, no single volume is weighty enough to warrant being individually
offered in one of our Fine Judaica auctions - hence, this Shelf-Sale has
been organized.

A customary detailed and illustrated auction-catalogue has not being issued
in conjunction with this Shelf-Sale, instead a generic auction-inventory
appears on our
Web-site which can be downloaded and printed. There will be no abbreviated
highlights or short-title list available for any of the lots in the sale.
Consequently, this admittedly places a greater onus of responsibility upon the
potential auction-bidder to examine the books directly.
Those clients for whom attendance at the pre-auction viewing and direct
examination is not possible, local book-dealers would presumably be prepared to
act on behalf of interested parties.

In all other respects, this Shelf-Sale will be conducted under traditional
auction lines and should attendance not be possible we would be happy to
execute commission-bids at the sale. The auction will be conducted, as usual,
by our auctioneer, Mr. Harmer Johnson.
Finally, please note, the standard buyer's premium will be levied on all
purchased lots as specified in Clause 6 of the Conditions of Sale.
