Dear Greer, I don't know anything about Evergreen, but I would recommend that you look at OPALS (http://www.opals-na.org).
Harry Chan from MediaFlex worked extensively with the Avi Chai Foundation to create a product that I think would work well in your situation. We also have a union catalog at http://avichai.calypso.scoolaid.net that would make your cataloging and collection development easier.
