Dear AJL Community,

I am reaching out to this community as it has helped me in the
past. I'm hopeful you can assist me now, as well.

I am a doctoral student interested in writing my dissertation on the
appropriateness of Holocaust literature for children. In essence, I
am seeking to evaluate picture books, though chapter books are
possible. I want to identify what is considered "good" literature for
children regarding the Holocaust. I'm mostly trying to identify which
books should be used in the first place. My secondary concern would
be at what age level to use which books.

Below are the questions I am seeking to answer.

(1) Is there a list of "recommended Holocaust literature" that AJL
has put out?
Is it possible to receive one?

(2) How does AJL decide which Holocaust literature to recommend and
which literature to reject? Is there consensus in your organization
about Holocaust literature for children or does each library
professional make his/her own determination?

(3) Is there an instrument or a rubric for evaluating Holocaust
literature that you could share with me as I begin my own research?

(4) What other organizations that deal with children's literature
might be helpful to me in answering this question?

Thank you for your help as I begin this process.

Please feel free to email me at ewi...@yu.edu or at this email address.

Sincerely,
