Rachel Check out Professor Leslie Stein's recent book, The Making of Modern Israel, 1948-1967. In the chapter entitled "The Arab Refugees," specifically on pp.70-72, Stein refutes the thesis of Pappe's Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine. My husband, a lifelong professional historian and teacher of history in a Jewish day school, highly recommends the above. For more than a decade until his recent retirement, he specialized in the teaching of Israel, and he continues to steep himself in the subject by almost incessant reading.
