Andrea -- My first thought regarding all of the artworks is to check with HUC. Maybe the Archives has some of the artists' pieces, and can give you some addditional leads on the artists themselves.
I don't know what the art scene is like in Cincinnati these days. But it's worth going to the museum and asking their curatorial staff to come and evaluate the condition of the pieces. Finally, I'd suggest taking digital photos and sending them to a couple of appraisers who deal in Judaica. Those folks can give you valuations. With these 3 pieces of information in hand, you (and the synagogue) can make a more intelligent decision about what you have, and what to do with it.
