  JEWISH FEDERATION OF GREATER DALLAS
Center for Jewish Education
Tycher Library Director

Philosophy

The role of a library is evolving from that of a single location
where books and other kinds of media are stored and checked out to
the community to the center of literary activity and research beyond
its physical location. As a result, librarians, or information
professionals, are consolidating traditional librarian
responsibilities with duties related to evolving technology and
broader community outreach. Librarians assist patrons in locating
information and use it proficiently for personal and professional
objectives. Librarians need to be knowledgeable of a vast array of
scholarly and public information resources and have to follow trends
and advancements in publishing, digital and other media to direct the
selection and organization of materials. Librarians need to direct
staff and volunteers to develop and design information programs and
systems that will be used by the community, making sure that all
information is displayed in a user friendly way. They will
collaborate with many other organizations to reach the goals and
plans of the Tycher Library and the Dallas Jewish community at large.
The overarching goal of the Tycher Library as a result of a strategic
planning process completed in 2009 is to strengthen the Tycher
Library as a vibrant Jewish communal resource that engages the broad
Jewish community in a personal exploration of Jewish culture and
learning and to raise awareness and usage of the Tycher Library.
