LibraryThing.com automatically finds a record from an ISBN number or title. If the record is found in a library, the LibraryThing.com record will automatically include the Dewey and Library of Congress Numbers. If you want to add in a Weine Classification number there is a section for comments that you can place it in by hand. It will not find it automatically. If a book is rare and you need to enter it in by hand then it will not automatically have a classification number in the record. LibraryThing.com only works for books. Although, I guess there is a way to put in a title and create a record for a map or something else manually if you wanted to label it like that. However, the form really is only set up for books. You could maybe put something in the title section like "Title of Album" (CD) and in the author section "Name of Musician", if you wanted to make it work for you in that manner. You would have to enter all of that data in by hand though. There is a place for multiple copies in the form. It will only upload one record. You can then look through your records to see what you have in multiple copies and change copies to the amount that you have in the collection. The amount of items that you can input per hour differs depending on how you input the records. If you can export your database to a .txt or .doc format, then you can upload it into librarything.com. It will recognize books by a valid ISBN and find them if they are in another library or in amazon.com and create a record from that list. You can enter in thousands at a time. It can take a couple of hours for the program to process the records if they are really busy. It will tell you how long it will take. If an item does not have an ISBN or the current and more common ISBN is different then librarything.com will not be able to find that record. You will have to go through the list of authors that it did find and match to your record. Then you need to enter all the other records in manually. It does not take to long if you can find it by title and author. However, sometimes you can not find it if it is rare or you have to transliterate hebrew and then it needs to be entered in manually. You do need to double check the records because some people have entered them in manually before you and you will need to fix mistakes, like adding in the first name if there is only a last name, or switching the order of the first or last name. When you enter books in manually it takes up as much time as typing it in would. It is definitely something that volunteers can help with. You would need to set it up for them and give them instruction. You should get to know how librarything.com works. You might want to think of how you want to add collections to your catalog before you begin, like making a label for the Juvenile Collection, YA Collection, Adult Collection, and Reference Collection. You also need to tag all books by hand because it does not have subject heading in it automatically. You can come up with a guide for a volunteer on how to tag the books so that it is uniform. The program is case sensitive so fiction and Fiction become two separate tags and you will need to decide on only using one or the other. I have noticed that you do not need to tag the name of a series, if it has won an award, or what region of the country it is a part of if the record is already in there. If you click on statistics you can see that option has already been done for you automatically. You can see what I have been doing with tagging and separating the collections in the catalog that I am working on at: http://www.librarything.com/profile/OakParkTemple You can see how I added to the profile that the member needs to talk to a volunteer to find out how to locate the book on the shelf, because it has been classified with the Weine Classification number. Do you have any other questions? ~Rachel
