James Madison University (JMU) Libraries seeks applicants for a new Health Sciences Librarian position based in Rose Library, a stunning facility opened in 2008, which is home to the science, technology and health sciences collections. James Madison University is a public, comprehensive university of approximately 20,000 students located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley, two hours southwest of Washington, D.C. The libraries include Carrier Library with collections supporting the arts, humanities and social sciences and also housing administration and technical services; Rose Library with collections supporting science, technology, and health sciences and the Music Library.
This position will serve as Liaison Librarian to programs in health sciences and related areas and will actively engage with students and faculty in assigned areas. The Health Sciences Librarian will provide research and instructional services, develop instructional materials and manage collections in all formats to support health sciences and related areas, primarily at the undergraduate level. This new position will be the second Health Sciences Librarian position in Rose Library and the two librarians will work closely together to provide a full range of support for rapidly growing health programs. As a member of the Rose Library team, the Health Sciences Librarian will also participate in a tiered staffing model providing traditional and online research consultations. In addition, the Health Sciences Librarian will collaborate with colleagues throughout Libraries and Educational Technologies to develop and promote library services that support teaching and research across the curriculum. Qualifications include ALA-accredited MLS is required, academic library experience is preferred and academic coursework in health sciences or experience in health sciences librarianship preferred. The successful candidate will also bring excellent interpersonal, time-management, analytical and organizational skills and a commitment to user-centered services. Faculty status requires potential to meet standards for tenure and promotion.
