Howard Fast's book, "My Glorious Brotthers", historical fiction about the lives
of the Maccabees, might work for you. In 2011 it was reissued in paperback.

And, there are many. many Holocaust books that highlight heroics of Jews,
however I would not recommend the Book Thief for that purpose, although it is
an excellent book.

Subject: [ha-Safran] Jewish Heroes

Hello Dear Colleagues,

Our college hopefully will be offering a Jewish literature series next spring
focusing on the theme of Jewish Heroes/Heroines. Our audience is the larger
community consisting of adults between the ages of 35 - 85.

A couple of titles we are considering are:

Megillat Esther
Exodus - Leon Uris
Book Thief - Marcus Zusak
All Other Nights -- Dara Horn

It would be wonderful to hear what titles you would recommend as worthwhile for
reading and group discussion. Many thanks in advance, Rose
