The Dallas Jewish Historical Society serves as a repository for the entire 
Jewish community of Dallas. In its holdings are personal and family papers, 
recorded oral histories, artifacts, and records of the various organizations 
which comprise the Jewish community in Greater Dallas.

* Receives all new materials donated, including properly logging and 
documenting acquisitions and temporarily housing them in appropriate containers 
in a secure area

* Determines, in conjunction with the Acquisitions Committee (if active) and 
Board approved policy, which donations should be retained for the permanent 
collection or long term loan, if applicable

* Processes materials for the archives collections according to professionally 
accepted standards for preservation; assigns acquisition numbers and maintains 
current catalogue for all acquisitions, oral histories, videos, and books; 
prepares finding aids

* Schedules and assists researchers and volunteers and acts as docent for 
visitors

* May work with volunteers to identify and solicit individuals, families and 
organizations for acquisitions

* Pursues the feasibility and desirability of converting all catalogues to 
computer database; may include grant writing, metadata preparation and copying 
records to alternate formats for preservation purposes

* Pursues the feasibility and desirability of digitizing documents and photos 
for inclusion in accessible, retrievable computer databases of archival 
materials

* Plans and works with volunteers to prepare rotating window displays in the 
Society's office and other in-house or online displays as needed

* Prepares or works with volunteers to prepare newsletter or newspaper articles 
on archived items of interest to the Jewish or general community

* Serves as staff for Oral History and Genealogy volunteers; including 
maintenance of the recording equipment/calendar, maintenance of the Oral 
History database, copying recordings for preservation and other purposes, and 
migration of materials to current data standards for accessibility and 
preservation

* Participates in other projects as required

Position requirements

* Preferred candidates will hold a Master's Degree in History or Library 
Science and will have completed specialized archival coursework; computer 
skills should include Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, 
and digital imaging software; experience with digital imaging and digital video 
also desired, website maintenance helpful.
* Able to perform essential functions of the position with or without 
reasonable accommodation.

This position is budgeted for 24 hours a week and reports to the Executive 
Director.
