Irene Buenavida is a woman with a mission. Upon retiring from a successful
40-year career with the Toronto Dominion Bank, she embarked on a project to
trace Jewish families from Egypt living in Montreal. She succeeded in locating
500 families, representing over 3,000 individuals. This exciting journey
inspired her to write an autobiographical account of the history of her family,
No Return, and establish Montreal's first Association of Jews from Egypt.

Join us as Irene discusses how Egypt, particularly Cairo and Alexandria, became
a multicultural crossroads for the Jewish people. Irene herself is an excellent
example of this; her father was Iraqi and her mother's family originated in
Morocco. She left Egypt in 1966 and emigrated to Montreal. Through her own
story, she documents the rich history and culture of the Jews of Egypt.

Light refreshments will be served.

$5 suggested donation at the door.

This event is supported in part by the Sally & Irving Korobkin Educational Fund
and the MDSC Social Planning Committee
