We also host a well-attended “Afternoon @ the Movies” series on weekday
afternoons at 3pm usually showing new films currently making the rounds at
festivals and not yet available on DVD. The most successful ones tend to be
about, and include, food:
Sturgeon Queens<http://thesturgeonqueens.com/> followed by a fish buffet
Dough<https://www.menemshafilms.com/dough> followed by bakery treats
Deli Man<http://www.delimanmovie.com/> followed by a deli spread (of course!)

This past fall we screened Body and Soul: An American
Bridge<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZY_dBdViaHw> and then turned the Library
into a “jazz club” with a performance by our local high school’s jazz ensemble
along with sangria, wine, and refreshments.
Later this month we are showing Germans & Jews<http://germansandjews.com/>
followed by a discussion with a local German historian.

Attendance ranges from 40-150 people depending on the film and time of year.
Contact me for a full list of films that we have shown over the years.

We have a lecture series and a movie night. Both events are consistently well
attended. Topics of discussion are Judaism / Christianity History, Greek/Judaic
topic, and other history related information. The movies vary from current to
old, Jewish themes, Jewish writers/producers/directors.

Daniel,
I might have not made myself clear. I’m looking for topics. We (a reform) ,
also, have Talmud and scholar-in-residence + adult Bat/bat-Mitzvah and the list
that I have listed in my question.
Thanks,
Amalia

It depends how one defines "success." Some programs attract lots of
participants and no one gained anything. Others may have a few dedicated
participants who really learn a lot. We have a Talmud class that meets weekly.
6-14 people show up every week. It has been going on for more than 25 years.
We have scholar-in-residence programs that more than 250 people attend.

Shalom,
This is a question from a friend to synagogue librarians or from your personal
experience.
What is your synagogue’s most successful adult education program (even if the
library is not involved in it).
Exclude; Book-Club, Bible class, Hebrew class, conversion, Israel, Holocaust
and cooking.
Shavua tov and todah,
