I remember Uncle Misha's Partisans very well from my days at a KS synagogue. One major memory attached to that book is that a special kid, a 5th grader, had severe asthma and was admitte4d to National Jewish Hospital in Denver for an extended stay away from his family. I sent him that book, and we had lots of correspondence to discuss it. (Before email, of course). That "kid" is now 54, and he still remembers that book with great fondness and remembers how it sealed a bond between us. So, I hope this is the book your colleague is looking for!
