Historic Holocaust Survivor Lists Digitized And Reprinted For The First Time

Hundreds of pages with the names of Holocaust survivors relocated to Displaced
Persons Camps in Austria and Germany have been reprinted and digitized. The
volumes were published in 1945 by the US Government. This was to help
survivors, the Sharit Ha-Platah,”the surviving remnant”, reach family members
around the world.

The extensive lists have never been available together and the original volumes
exist in only a few libraries worldwide. Having them in one readily available
collection will enhance access to needed information for families of survivors,
genealogists and researchers.

Ken Schoen of Schoen Books has reprinted the five bound volumes that he had
originally found buried in a library and was able to purchase.

Schoen's motif of "books with a past looking for a future" explains why he
dedicated time and effort to the project.
>From the old firehouse in downtown South Deerfield he has specialized in out
>of print scholarly books concerning the Holocaust for the past thirty years
>.Most of his family was able to escape from Nazi Germany and he grew up in a
>neighborhood with many survivor families.

Here is the link to the digitized searchable version of the five volumes put on
the web by Special Collections at the University of Massachusetts.

For the historical background to the book listen to Professor Avinoam Patt
discussing the work of Rabbi Klausnerin an interview with the Museum of Jewish
Heritage.
