Michelle, at Sephardic Temple Tifereth Israel in Los Angeles, which is just
over 100 years old, we had some students and faculty from the UCLA Leve
Center for Jewish Studies come over to help us with our archive, which was
organized but had outgrown its space. The board chose to gift the archive
to UCLA so that items would be properly preserved and available to
researchers. A finding aid made the digitized items accessible. The
connection we made fit into the Center's Sephardic Archive Initiative

for all concerned. Our gift was a major part of the project.

So currently we do not have an active archive since the previous archive
space was turned into a much-needed classroom. I am setting aside likely
items -- things I come across, especially among donations -- in a few boxes
in a corner of the library to form the basis of a future archive. It's not
ideal but at least it's a start.

Anyway, I second Ari Kinsberg's suggestion to contact local organizations
with expertise in Judaica and/or archives.

Best,
Annette
