Dear Safranim, In 2020, AJL members Susan Kusel, Heidi Rabinowitz, and Chava Pinchuck created The Sydney Taylor Shmooze, an independent blog unofficially associated with AJL. The original concept was to create a mock award blog for the Sydney Taylor Book Award. Our site soon morphed into a comprehensive review blog instead, covering nearly every Jewish juvenile book published each year.
In 2026 we are rebranding The Sydney Taylor Shmooze, bringing it under the umbrella of The Jewish Book Garden, a new Substack newsletter that Susan and Heidi have created as a hub for all our various projects promoting Jewish literature (AJL-related or otherwise). This move will allow readers to receive reviews via email, and even to subscribe to reviews for specific age levels.
