The short-term fellowship will consist of a stipend of $1,250 per week for a minimum of two and maximum of four weeks to cover reimbursable expenses. Mid-term fellowships will be available for the spring semester (January–May 2027) and will offer a stipend of $25,000. The long-term fellowship will cover the 2026–2027 academic year (September 2026–May 2027), and will offer a stipend of $60,000. For the duration of the fellowship, fellows will receive an affiliation with Fordham University. Successful fellows will give one public presentation and a faculty seminar at Fordham. Eligibility Fordham-NYPL Research Fellowships in Jewish Studies are open to individuals based outside the New York metropolitan area. For the purposes of this fellowship, the New York metropolitan area includes: the five boroughs of New York City; Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester Counties in New York; Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, and Union Counties in New Jersey; and Greenwich and Stamford, Connecticut. A complete application consists of the online form; an abbreviated CV of no more than two pages; a project proposal of no more than three pages; and a professional letter of recommendation. Applications for mid- and long-term fellowships must also include a writing sample. The project proposal is to include a general description of the research project, including its title and format; two suggested topics for research talks (one public and one for Fordham faculty); and the desired dates of residence. Applicants should identify specific material(s) to be consulted at The New York Public Library and Fordham faculty with whom to liaise during the desired dates of the fellowship period. Successful applications will also include an in-depth explanation of how collections existing only at NYPL are essential to the progress and completion of the research project. Residencies: Short-term fellows must take up residency between September 2026 and May 2027, during an academic semester at Fordham University. Fellows are expected to be in continuous residence for the duration of the fellowship award period as specified in the proposal. The maximum proposal length is four weeks. Mid-term fellows must take up residency between January 2027 and May 2027.
