The when the picture elements are stitched back Is this really due to color differences of the order of 10^-17, or rather due to different libc-inherited random number generator implementations on different machines (which IIRC have been eliminated and replaced by a povray-internal generator in 3.x)? Since povray by default neglects everything below 1/256, I can barely imagine such an effect with recent versions. Ralf
