how to set default editor in hugs 98 for win and linux

I've just started to use hugs in both the windows 98 and linux environments
and wanted to assign notepad and kwrite
as the default editors to their respective os'. If you could enlighten me on
this setup procedue for both systems ot wuld be greatly appreciated
