Another (slightly more heavy-weight) option would be to use something like hMPI (http://www-i2.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/~michaelw/hmpi.html). It doesn't work as per the web page on ghc 5.04; however, bringing it up to date isn't very difficult and I have done it myself so I could give you the updated source files.
