I was exaggerating. :-) I think the way Firefox does it is about the least sucky solution possible. Power users will always find the way to tweak their tools, it’s less inclined people you have to cater to, and for them, sensible defaults and manageable numbers of knobs are paramount. It’s a dilemma without a really good way out of it; every solution sucks for one reason or another, you can just try to pick one that doesn’t suck too much.
