Somewhat easier: install the Firebug and Stylish extensions.
Firebug has an excellent live Inspector that makes it easy to
correlate a dingus on the rendered page with the markup
responsible for it, and Stylish makes it easy to apply custom
CSS to some selection of sites.

Since I installed Stylish I’ve done a quite a bit of site UI
tweaking this way (I already had Firebug, since it’s by far the
least hateful way of developing JS stuff), and I’m actually not
hating it for the most part.
