sure it's stupid that you can't do it with the keyboard, but you can
just turn on the triggers for rating in quicksilver, which is about as
close to default osx as you can get while remaining something that
makes the mac worthwhile

What? This seems to work fine on a MacBook Pro.

The hate about the lack of a built in keyboard interface to setting
ratings is very much worthy of hate though.
