So basically you assumed that because the plug fitted in the socket a ten year old OS should be able to handle a modern peripheral? What do you consider to be at fault here? OS 9 for not predicting the future or iPod for not working happily with any computer it can physically connect to regardless of age?

There are plenty of things to criticise Apple about. This doesn't feel like one of them.
