Over in HBASE-684, LN suggests that we should find alternative to synchronized
sortedmap; its used all over the place in hbase so a faster alternative should
improve thoughput. That synchronized sortedmap is less than perfect has been
known from earliest days (see cafarella comment at head of HStore#internalGet
in 0.1 branch.
