Andrew Purtell commented on HBASE-1907:
---------------------------------------

We could inherit from VersionedWritable. I thought HTD and HCD did in fact do
that, but when I looked they did not. Also I seem to recall some use of
VersionedWritable in HBase but a search turned up only ClusterStatus and
HRegionInfo. I flipped a coin and did it the HTD/HCD way. Maybe commit this and
then look at moving all ad hoc Writable versioning to use VersionedWritable?

> All client writables should be versioned. See HBASE-1537, which adds a
> parameter to scan that enables a scanning mode suitable for wide tables.
> Without versioning the modification results in incompatible RPC with previous
> releases. We can't put this into a minor release for that reason and that
> reason alone.
