The coming hbase 0.2 release will run on the hadoop 0.17 branch. If you
can't wait, try the hbase TRUNK. We have not yet made the 0.2 branch so
TRUNK holds current state of 0.2 development. Be warned though that its
not yet stable.
If you are looking for stability, let me recommend that you use a
released hbase (though this means you are currently stuck with hadoop 0.16).
