Can a committer take a look at this patch?
Other than readding debug build support, this is a straightforward no-op. I'm
working towards getting changes to our internal branch moved upstream, and this
patch is some code cleanup that makes our diff huge. The main changes are
updating unit tests so they run in the IDE, which were needed to debug some
other changes.
