This is a shim specific to pig. It's to shim this weird behavior in local mode
between 1.0 and later. So pig continues to work as expected in local mode.
You don't need to include pig as a dependency since this will be only called as
part of a pig job and that class will be there. I agree we can look at making
this more generic, though it shouldn't block you.
