Tools such as YCSB, and the mahout testing framework
(http://svn.apache.org/repos/asf/mahout/trunk/examples/bin/), allow us to test
and benchmark deployments of ecosystem tools without relying on particular
source code distributions.
It would be ideal if HCatalog was bundled with executable map reduce jobs which
confirmed that the HCatalog services and APIs worked correctly with the
underlying data stores.
Currently, the only such tests are the e2e tests, which are dependent on the
source code build and more suited towards development than deployment
validation.
