That may be your experience with Ubuntu, but I assure you that a
Ubuntu installation does not necessarily have to be bloated, similarly
to a Debian installation.  I'm not talking about doing a full live CD
install, complete with the X Server and GNOME -- far from it!  What I
propose is taking just the packages that we need, and that are
relevant to a server environment.  Think of our current Debian setup,
basically, but with newer versions of each package.

We can even safely perform a dist-upgrade safely from Debian stable
(which we currently have on the new machines, to the best of my
knowledge) to a stable Ubuntu release -- I have done this myself at
least 7 different times -- which would only add packages that come
with updated versions of the packages we want, and nothing else.  I am
even willing to perform the upgrade on our new machines myself,
pending further discussion on the matter and a consensus on using
Ubuntu.
