Wow. We've had a an OS/distribution discussion a few times in the past,
and it was agreed we use/continue-to-use to Debian. We also never had
any system problems with Debian that would make us reconsider this.

My experience with Ubuntu was disappointing. Even putting that aside,
Ubuntu is not a distribution targetted at the server or advanced-users'
market anyway.

There are at least 2 sites where we can take Debian-native, newer
versions of packages. One of them that I know offhand is
http://www.backports.org/ . We've used it before moving to 
testing on fyodor and it was working well.

We already agreed on the Debian branches to use on all three servers.

Assuming we use testing on the frontend machine (as agreed before),
there will be a small number of packages to backport (if any). And
since the difference between testing and unstable is very small, all
that will take to build them for us will be apt-get -b <package_name>.
