Anu Engineer updated HDFS-7240:
-------------------------------
    Attachment: Ozonedesignupdate.pdf

Hi All,

I have attached the ozone design update. Hopefully this addresses the concerns
expressed by [~andrew.wang]. My apologies for the delay.

I am also hoping that this will take us back to ozone's technical issues, and I
would like to host a call if anyone would like to discuss this in greater depth.

[~andrew.wang] [~zhz] [~cmccabe] [~drankye] I would like to respond to the
technical issues you have raised in this JIRA once you get time to read thru
this design update and we all have a shared understanding of current state of
ozone.

I would like to reassure you all that this is a design proposal and very much
open to change. I would love to discuss the merits of this proposal and would
love to see more community engagement and participation in ozone. Please do let
me know if I can do anything more to address that concern.

> This jira proposes to add object store capabilities into HDFS.
> As part of the federation work (HDFS-1052) we separated block storage as a
> generic storage layer. Using the Block Pool abstraction, new kinds of
> namespaces can be built on top of the storage layer i.e. datanodes.
> In this jira I will explore building an object store using the datanode
> storage, but independent of namespace metadata.
> I will soon update with a detailed design document.
