bq. It looks like the difference between 'async' and thread pool is negligible; 
10% at the extreme. Is that how you interpret the results?
Yes.

bq. As per Andrew Wang, would be interested in what happens when less threads 
(especially as NN is set up with 300 handlers...); tendency seems to be the 
less threads you use, the better it does.
I will probably run benchmark for cases of less threads, but the tendency may 
not be true. Thank you.
