Julia Kinga Marton commented on HDFS-12571:
-------------------------------------------

I tried it out on Linux as well, and here both versions are working. The error
occurs only on Mac.

I noticed only now, that Mac is not mentioned among the supported platforms:

[~elek], I noticed as well the mismatch of the line numbers. The output of the
wc is the same as yours. I don`t really understand why is this mismatch (I am
new on using Mac, maybe is something OS specific?). I used a binary
distribution of the apache release.

> It seems that during one of the previous merge some unnecessary spaces has
> been added to the hadoop-hdfs-project/hadoop-hdfs/src/main/bin/hdfs file.
> After a dist build I can not start server with the hdfs command:

> Or see the latest version at:
> To be honest I don't understand how it could work for others, as it seems to
> be an older change. Maybe some git magic removed it on OSX (I use linux).
> Anyway I upload a patch to fix it.
