(and as usual, only noticed once that is in) we no longer need the service declarations in src/main/resources/META-INF/services/org.apache.hadoop.fs.MultipartUploader There's no harm in having them there as the service loading is no longer used -but we should still cut it for due diligence and to keep cruft to a minimum was: Follow-on to HDFS-13934.
