During block reading, an {{IOException}} triggers error-handling logic in
{{createBlockReader}} that assumes {{dnInfo}} has already been initialized, but
the failure occurs before this initialization completes, causing a
{{NullPointerException}} when {{dnInfo}} is prematurely used.
