Jason Lowe updated HDFS-3224:
-----------------------------

    Status: Open (was: Patch Available)

bq. Why not just fix the lookup to use IP rather than IP:port?
I think if we just have the lookup use IP then we're going to create problems
with setups that launch multiple datanodes per host like miniclusters. If we
lookup only by IP then as soon as the second datanode from the same IP
registers we'll accidentally think it's replacing the first datanode which
isn't the intent.

TestCheckpoint failure appears to be unrelated, see HDFS-4006. I'll update the
patch to cleanup the names and add a test case.

> DatanodeManager#registerDatanode checks the host to node map using an IP:port
> key, however the map is keyed on IP, so this check will always fail. It's
> performing the check to determine if a DN with the same IP and storage ID has
> already registered, and if so to remove this DN from the map and indicate
> that eg it's no longer hosting these blocks. This bug has been here forever.
