Thanks, that clarifies things a bit. 

Following up, with this patch the clients of the WebHFDS service are 'sending' 
(as part of the HTTP request info) the hostname to WebHDFS and WebHDFS is 
setting it on its behalf. This is critical for client environments that do not 
have (and cannot have) a hadoop client setup (which would allow them to run 
fetchdt -assuming we fix up fetchdt to serve WebHDFS tokens, which are not 
served today-).
