Thanks Nicholas. I just removed the UNKNOWN/DEFAULT enum from StorageTypeProto. 
On further thought it is an optional field so we can just skip sending it over 
the wire if unknown/default. StorageType and StorageTypeProto can be in sync 
and they are both in the hdfs package now.
